What a whirlwind 2023 has been! It seems like only yesterday we were welcoming in the New Year, but now we’re already looking ahead to 2024. It’s hard to believe that it was only last year in 2022 we officially launched CiviPlus to the public.

We’d like to take the opportunity now to take a look back on the many things we’ve been up to this year.

Firstly we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the clients and partners we have collaborated with this year. From those who’ve been with us since the start and those newer members of the CiviPlus family, we’ve seen how CiviPlus has transformed the way many organisations work, enabling them to be more efficient, streamline their processes and empower their users to provide improved experiences for their supporters. Check out some of the testimonials on our home page to hear first hand how CiviPlus has impacted their organisation!

Updates to CiviPlus

CiviPlus is constantly looking for ways to iterate and extend its already comprehensive functionality and this year has been no exception!The portal area, in particular, has seen some major feature extensions (and we’re not done yet!). We’ve added sections providing portal users more information on their membership status and renewal date, and added sections for interacting with any committees/sub-organisations plus any cases they are involved with. Any application can now be saved as a draft! This is especially handy for long applications requiring a lot of information to complete. And soon you’ll be seeing our brand new CPD logging functionality on there.

There’s also been some truly impressive work behind the scenes this year. As one example, thanks to our talented engineers working their magic, we’ve managed to increase the load time of CiviPlus sites by 39% or more!

These are just a handful of the many additions and improvements we’ve seen to CiviPlus in 2023. We’re constantly iterating to meet the ever varied needs of our clients. We’ve also got some very exciting feature updates coming in 2024, so look forward to hearing more at some point in the New Year.

Webinars

Our successful series of webinars has continued this year, going from strength to strength as we continue to cover a broad range of topics relevant to charities and membership organisations and all varieties of nonprofits.

This year has seen us go in depth on topics such as membership portals, how to craft a communications strategy, how to make application processes easier to manage, and events management, to name but a few.

As always, you can find all of our past webinars on our YouTube channel - we even have a dedicated playlist!

Events

This year the CiviPlus team have been out and about more! From the TAF’s Best Practice Exchange to AAE’s UK Congress and more, our team have really enjoyed directly engaging face to face with members of the nonprofit community and learning more about their challenges. We’ll continue attending these events next year so be sure to keep an eye out for us!

CiviPlus Website improvements

As we continue to spread the word about CiviPlus, we’ve also been working on further improving our website to even better convey what CiviPlus is and more about its amazing functionality.

You might have noticed, for instance, that we’ve got a brand new section on the vitally important topic of security, alongside a new FAQ area. Our major changes have been to the feature section, however, with a brand new hub page and new pages for both case management and our extra special self service portal.

Our blog series has also continued apace, with our post on where UK charities can find funding grants proving especially popular. One final major update to our website this year has been the addition of a new intro to CiviPlus video which you can watch below if you haven’t already and feel free to share with friends in the wider nonprofit community!

In Summary

There is of course so much more we could talk about from 2023 but to keep it brief, it’s been a great year and we’re feeling very excited about what’s still to come.

We are delighted to announce a new integration of CiviCRM with Open Social, a community engagement platform.

CiviCRM is the number one open source CRM for not-for profits, used by more than 11,000 organisations worldwide, and Open Social is a leading community engagement platform, used by over 1000 organisations in a range of different industries from Charities to member organisations and companies also.

It’s exciting news for organisations using CiviCRM, who will now be able to combine the power of CiviCRM with the collaboration and community building that the Open Social platform provides.
If you’ve not heard of community platforms before, a community platform is a tool that allows your organisation to create your own branded and tailored social network. Users of the platform (normally your members or supporters) can interact, join groups to share knowledge and exchange ideas, publish and promote events and collaborate within a safe online curated space. With a community platform you can expand your digital offer and strengthen your relationship with your supporters.

Open Social is open source (much like CiviCRM) and as such has no user licences fees. This means it can be deployed affordably to scale to even the largest of communities. It’s also flexible with a huge range of different add-on modules that can be integrated to enhance the platform.

Our new two-way integration between Open Social and CiviCRM syncs data between the two platforms allowing information about the groups and committees that members have joined to be seamlessly synced to CiviCRM. You can even create Open Social groups and manage their membership directly from within CiviCRM, which would be useful for managing private groups in the case of committees or working groups.

By combining the data of a community platform with that in your CiviCRM your organisation can obtain deep insights into your members' interests and behaviours. You can see which groups are popular and engage with your members on topical issues, automating communications and tailoring their experience.

A great example is a recent implementation for the UN’s PRI (Principles of Responsible Investment). Their user community includes over 2,900 organisations with over 40,000 individuals spread across 6 continents. Their Community Platform now supports discussions between 24,000 users with over 750 online collaboration spaces. The data is seamlessly synced to their CRM allowing for deep insight guiding their policy engagements.
